Abortion protests within the law

Protestors exercising right to freedom of speech

Those opposing the legalisation of abortion on the Island are just exercising their right to freedom of speech, according to the Isle of Man Constabulary.

Politicians are currently debating the Abortion Reform Bill, which passed its third reading in the House of Keys on Tuesday (1 May).

The emotive issue has prompted protests from both pro-choice and pro-life campaigners - with some accused of displaying distasteful or offensive images.

A statement released by the Constabulary says officers will continue to monitor the protests and will act if the nature of the demonstrations change and a criminal offence is committed.
