Abortion reform nears closing stages

More than 60 amendments tabled

Politicians are expected to support a lengthy set of amendments to proposed changes in the law on abortion.

The Abortion Reform Bill 2018, which for the first time would allow women to legally terminate a pregnancy up to 14 weeks - is back in the House of Keys on Tuesday.

Members of the Legislative Council have tabled more than 60 amendments, setting out a number of legal definitions on pregnancy and care for those who undergo the procedure.

East Douglas MHK Chris Robertshaw has filed two additional amendments.

He believes progress on the bill, which was first tabled almost two years ago, is finally striking 'the right balance':
