Accessible bus stops rolled out across Bus Vannin network

Department of Infrastructure says upgrades will make travel easier for wheelchair and mobility scooter users

Work to improve accessibility at bus stops across the Island is progressing, according to the Department of Infrastructure.

Infrastructure Minister Michelle Haywood announced on Manx Radio's Mannin Line that all Bus Vannin routes now include a number of stops designed to better accommodate wheelchair users and people with mobility scooters.

A list of accessible stops is due to be published on the operator’s website from Monday (19 January), with the changes coming into effect from 2 February.

Dr Haywood says the upgrades are intended to make it easier and safer for people to travel independently, adding that more infrastructure improvements are planned.

She also thanked mobility scooter and wheelchair users for their patience.

The changes follow a trial last year allowing mobility scooters on buses on the Douglas Service 21 route serving Anagh Coar and Farmhill, which helped refine procedures ahead of wider adaptations.

People wishing to use mobility scooters on buses can book an assessment to check compatibility, with appointments available at the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal from Monday.

Bus Vannin staff will also be available at the Bottleneck car park on 27 January, from 10am until 12pm, to answer questions and demonstrate access to buses.
