Account closure notice was error admits Barclaycard

Manx customers had been told their cards would stop working

An account closure notice emailed to Barclaycard customers on the Isle of Man overnight was sent in error, the bank has admitted.

Customers were told, if they don't have a UK residential address, their credit cards would stop working on 30 May and their accounts would be closed later in June.

A spokesperson told Manx Radio: "We offer our sincere apologises to any of our Barclaycard customers resident on the Isle of Man that may have been incorrectly informed that their accounts would be closed.

"We can confirm all existing cardholders resident on the Isle of Man will continue to be supported and there will be no change to the service they currently receive.”

However Isle of Man residents will no longer be able to apply for a Barclaycard in the future.

Credit card holders have been sent text messages by the bank apologising for its mistake.
