Douglas East MHK to call on Tynwald to consider support for neurodivergent residents

An MHK says a lack of support and diagnosis for adults with ADHD and Autism is having an impact on the Isle of Man as a whole.

Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher will bring a motion to Tynwald next month calling for the DHSC and Manx Care to consider, among other things, the economic impact of not providing such pathways.

Ms Faragher will move that the Department and Manx Care should plan for the introduction of all-age support and diagnosis pathways for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Syndrome and Autism and that this plan should consider the findings from a recent committee and the economic impact of not providing diagnosis and support for neurodivergence; and be brought, along with the associated funding requirements, for debate and vote at or before the February 2026 sitting of Tynwald Court.

She's been explaining to Manx Radio why:

On autism - the DHSC has previously told Manx Radio the patient should be referred to the Manx Care Advice and Liaison Service (MCALS) to seek direct support and guidance as it will be tailored to their individual need/circumstances.

Ms Faragher's motion will be brought to the next sitting of Tynwald, which gets underway on Tuesday 17 June.

Manx Radio has approached Manx Care for a comment.
