Minister rejects report as 'demonising' children
An alarming picture of behaviour among Island students outside of school is being painted by a UK teachers’ union this morning (Thursday).
The NASUWT claims local teachers are regularly being subjected to verbal threats and physical violence outside the school gates.
It’s also claimed up to an hour of teaching can be lost each day due to low-level disruption in the classroom.
However, the union insists there’s a widespread denial of the problem within some schools and the Department of Education and Children.
National executive member, Damien McNulty, is due to fly to the Island this morning (Thursday) for talks with its members after they were surveyed locally.
Education Minister Graham Cregeen believes the findings paint a very misleading and potentially damaging picture.
