Owners say decision comes 'due to circumstances that were beyond their control'
The Andreas Gliding Club, based at the northern airfield, has ceased operation.
In a statement published online, the owners said the decision came 'due to circumstances that were beyond their control'.
The club came here in 1997 but the graceful flying machines - which use thermals to keep aloft - will no longer be gracing the skies above the north of the Island.
Chairman Bob Fennell says operating it began to get really tough during the pandemic, and that was combined with the loss of their regular inspector.
Mr Fennell, who has also been an instructor for over four decades, says another problem was sharing the airfield:
Rolling delays see Manxman sailings cancelled
Assisted dying bill receiving 'due attention it deserves' in UK
Faulty device believed to have triggered multi-agency search effort
Payroll firm reprimanded after thousands of personal records discovered in abandoned shredding bins
