Application to turn empty wine retailer into childcare centre

Nursery hopes to secure 7-year lease

A Douglas nursery is hoping to have the former Wine Cellar building as a new base for its after-school club.

Hopes and Dreams, which has been operating The Buzz from a unit in Eden Park, has described the Tennis Road site as 'well suited' and 'conveniently located'.

It comes as its current term in the industrial estate is set to end next month.

Following the closure of a similiar club at the Children's Centre, The Buzz says it is now the sole provider of such care services, with some 60 families relying on it.

The nursery is aiming to secure a 7-year lease to run a pre school from 9am to 3pm and an after school club from 3.30 until 6, subject to planning approval.

A further two full-time childcare staff members could be needed should Hopes and Dreams secure the premises.

The beverage retailer, once occupiers of adjacent space to the Wessex Garage on Alexander Drive, made the move to the Milestone on Peel Road last year.
