Armed police deployed after 'altercation' in Douglas

Man taken to hospital with head injuries

Armed police were deployed yesterday morning after an altercation in Douglas which left a man with head injuries.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses after the incident which happened at around 1am (Saturday, 22 May) in the areas of Upper Dukes Road and St Ninian's Road.

It's been described as an 'altercation' between two local men – one was taken to Noble’s Hospital for treatment; his injuries are not described as life threatening.

Armed officers located and arrested the alleged offender later that morning.

Inspector Neil Craig says: "Whilst armed officers were deployed, as part of our response, the incident was specific and contained between both of the men who are understood to be known to each other.

"As a result of the information which is currently known, and from enquiries which have been undertaken so far, we are satisfied that no wider members of the public were in any danger."

Anyone who was in the area at the time, or who captured the incident on their CCTV, doorbell cameras or on dash cam, is being asked to contact Police Headquarters on 01614 631212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
