Around 500 more full-time government employees since 2016

Douglas North MHK quizzes cabinet office minister over reason for growth

The number of people in full time employment with the Isle of Man Government has grown by around 500 in the past seven years.

Since March 2016 the total number, which includes those employed in the civil service and the wider public service, has increased from 6736.5 to 7265.9.

The figures have been released in response to a Tynwald Written Question from Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh, who also asked what consideration has been given to restoring the headcount control mechanism which was in place before 2016.

Cabinet Office Minister Kate Lord-Brennan says a report last year concluded that the growth did not result from government replacing the 'Personnel Control Mechanism' with the 'Employment Costs Budgetary Control Mechanism', which came into with effect form 1 April 2015.
