Rob Callister says referendum should be held on 'election night'
An MHK says proposals for assisted dying laws on the Isle of Man are causing divisions between members of the Island's parliament and the community.
Onchan MHK Rob Callister was speaking to Manx Radio ahead of the Tynwald Day celebrations in St John's.
The House of Keys has spent several sittings debating the clauses of the proposed laws, and just recently calls for a public referendum were shot down.
Mr Callister says things like Dr Alex Allinson's Private Members Bill can prove to be a distraction to government's main priorities:
Heysham sailings cancelled due to adverse weather forecast
Immigration expert claims government didn't factor in impact of migrants' families
Motorists advised to move cars from Bottleneck
Drugs activity on the Island leading to kidnappings, says chief constable
