Attorney General trial hears evidence from advocate representing Street Heritage owners

A court’s been told the family behind a failed Island business were in an increasingly desperate financial position.

Advocate Jerry Carter represented the Irving family as they tried to stave off a winding-up order against their company Street Heritage.

He yesterday (Wed) gave evidence in the trial of the Island’s Attorney General, Stephen Harding.

Mr Harding denies charges of perjury and committing an act against public justice, relating to the winding-up of the company.

When the winding-up order came to court, Mr Carter had the wrong time in his diary and only showed after Street Heritage had been struck from the register.

Mr Carter said when told he’d missed hearing, he was cross with himself, with the Irvings who he said had told him wrong time and with Mr Harding.

The court heard Mr Carter had spoken to Mr Harding the day before the sitting and said he never gave him the impression he would not turn up to court, although he admitted he may have given Mr Harding the feeling his attitude towards the case was waning.

Mr Carter also admitted the defendant had even advised him the best route to avoid a winding up order.

The trial continues.
