August target for Island Sexual Assault Referral Centre

Project expected to take eight weeks to complete

There are aims to open a Sexual Assault Referral Centre on the Island by August.

The Department of Health and Social Care has been working with Home Affairs and Public Health to develop the facility.

The service would be the first on the Island to treat and support adults and children who've experienced a sexual assault or rape.

Last month MLC Tanya August-Hanson called for the creation of the centre to be accelerated after she described the current process as wholly inadequate:
