Baby lemur deaths confirmed

Overnight fire at Wildlife Park

It's been confirmed two endangered baby gentle lemurs died in a fire at Curraghs Wildlife Park, which tore through their enclosure overnight.

Firefighters were called to the incident shortly before midnight, and later confirmed the deaths of sisters Georgia and Nina, in a blaze thought to be caused by an electrical component failure.

The exhibit was only refurbished and rewired a month ago, and keepers had remarked on how 'happy' the animals seemed in their new home.

Park Manager Kathleen Graham fought back tears outside the park earlier.

The park made the announcement on social media, and thanked staff, the fire service and public for help and messages of support.
