Bail for man who allegedly strangled his girlfriend

49-year-old denies assault occasioning actual bodily harm

A Douglas man who has been accused of strangling his girlfriend will appear in court again in May.

Forty-nine-year-old Nicholas John Trigg, of Loch Promenade, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.

He denies assault occasioning actual bodily harm, at a property in Hillside Avenue in Douglas, on 27 February.

The court was told Mr Trigg and his girlfriend had allegedly been drinking at a friend's home as they watched a football match.

She left and went to bed but when Mr Trigg returned home neighbours reportedly heard an argument break out.

A witness called police after spotting the woman unconscious on the ground - she told officers the last thing she could remember was having his hands around her throat.

Magistrates heard she hadn't wanted to make a complaint but the Attorney General's chambers had decided to press ahead with the case.

Mr Trigg was bailed and is next due to appear in court on 5 May.
