Ballakermeen Year 8 to study from home tomorrow

Headteacher describes action as 'unwelcome'

More students at Ballakermeen High School are being asked to stay at home tomorrow (14 July).

The head teacher says it’s due to 'exceptional' levels of staff absence.

Year 8s are being told to study from home using Google classroom.

However Adrienne Burnett has described the action as 'unwelcome'.

In a letter to parents and carers she said: "Despite a concerted effort to continue to operate as normal, exceptional levels of staff absence have left us with no option but to take the action outlined above.

"Work can be accessed via the usual Google classroom but with significant numbers of staff absent there may not be work available in every subject area.

"I fully appreciate the impact that this will have on our young people and families and I must apologise for the disruption to learning that will occur.

"I would not be taking this unwelcome action unless it was essential."

Children were also asked to stay at home on 8 July.
