Bank helps out with basking shark satellite tagging

The Isle of Man Bank is to help with the work of Manx Basking Shark Watch this summer.

It's sponsoring one of the new generation of satellite tags which the charity is using for the first time this year.

They will relay information about the shark's position in real time and allow data to be uploaded to a website where members of the public will be able to see just where each shark has travelled.

Basking Shark Watch volunteers are hoping to attach the new tags to ten animals this season.

Marine Officer at the Manx Wildlife Trust, Eleanor Stone, says they're delighted with the bank's assistance as the new tags are expensive and each one which can be sponsored is a huge help for the charity.

The bank's shark will be knows as "Finly" - a name chosen by children at Braddan Primary School.
