World famous environmentalists are celebrating their 50th anniversary today
The world famous environmentalists - The Wombles - are celebrating their 50th anniversary today.
The furry eco-warriors lived on Wimbledon Common but were a huge success around the world with books and over 90 television shows.
Here on the Isle of Man, our very own environmentalists, Beach Buddies, have thanked the Wombles for leading the way.
In a post on social media, they said: "Happy birthday Wombles - we at Beach Buddies love you.
"Look at what you started - the Isle of Man now has thousands and thousands picking up rubbish every day."
To mark the special occasion, the show's back catalogue is being restored and placed on YouTube.
Marcus Robertson is the son of Wombles author and creator Elisabeth Beresford - he says the idea was a fluke:
Beach Buddies are taking a short break this weekend, but they will be back in action again on Sunday, 12 February
