Bell ringers to celebrate 'Ellacombe device' today

Bells to ring out across world at midday to mark 200th anniversary

Bell ringers across the Island are celebrating the invention of the 'Ellacacombe device' today (26 June).

It allows one person to ring all the bells in a tower, with the device installed in the tower of St Thomas’s Church, Finch Road, Douglas

At midday, the St Thomas’s bell ringer, Edwing Creer, will be joining over 200 other towers world wide in a ring to mark the 200th anniversary.

The bells of St Thomas were originally installed in 1852, and restored following the fire in 1912.
