Bell would consider top job, if asked

The 'people's choice' to be the next chief minister of the Isle of Man has given his first indication he would be willing to take on the top job in Manx politics.

Ramsey MHK Allan Bell topped a poll of possible candidates in a recent survey of electors, with 15 per cent of the vote.

On Agenda last night (Monday), he said the next government would need leadership, a cool head and all the experience it could get, in what promised to be a difficult five years for the Isle of Man.

However, he also stressed his first loyalty was to the people of Ramsey (first part of audio file):

Mr Bell said the experience he had gained in senior goverment positions over a number of years had put him in a position to make a positive contribution to the Island, if re-elected (second part of audio file):

Three other people are currently contesting the two seats in Ramsey, the others being sitting member Anne Craine and challengers John McDonough and Leonard Singer.
