SPC says it was due to high wind speeds
The Ben-my-Chree was drafted in to carry extra freight and dangerous goods between the Isle of Man and Heysham last night.
The Steam Packet says it decided to use the vessel to allow Manxman to carry as many passengers as possible.
It wasn't all smooth sailing for the Ben overnight, though.
The ferry operator says, due to wind speeds on the berth at Heysham being higher than the risk assessment for the Ben-my-Chree, the master aborted approach and held off west of the Lune to allow wind speeds to moderate.
This morning's Manxman sailing to Heysham is due to depart with a slight delay - leaving Douglas at 9am.
