Narrowing the gap between disadvantaged and advantaged children, early literacy skills and recruitment issues.

These were some of the areas discussed at a British-Irish Council ministerial meeting looking at early years policy.

The Isle of Man's education minister Graham Cregeen was among those in attendance at the event, hosted by the Welsh Government in Cardiff.

Representatives from government's across the British Isles discussed the importance of early years education to give children the best start in life.

They agreed four main themes to focus on in the coming years, including ways to resolve the problem of recruiting and retaining teachers, the use of language and communication and the benefits of outdoor play and learning.
