Big Birthday bash at Groudle Railway

Original engine Sea Lion will be operating

Groudle Railway is celebrating its 125th birthday.

It was opened in 1896 by Richard Maltby Broadbent and ran as a tourist attraction until the early 1960's when it fell into disrepair.

During the 1970's the line was scraped and rolling stock sold.

Volunteers began trying to restore the feature in 1982 and it reopened to passengers in 1986.

The engine Sea Lion, which ran the first services 125 years ago, will be operating today.

There is also a family train-spotting competition with prizes on offer.
