Border change: Health staff can return to work under exemption pathway

Follows concern over post-isolation rules

Healthcare staff who return to the Island following Monday's border change will be allowed back to work under an exemption pathway.

Rules state all returnees must take a test, within 48 hours of arrival, and isolate until proving negative for Covid-19.

Their only limitation was avoiding health and social care settings for the next 10 days unless in need of emergency care.

However this caused concern for those who work in such settings who would have needed to take at least 10 days off work after their return.

Following calls for exceptions to be made government now says it'll lift the restriction for health and social care workers under an exemption pathway.

Health and Social Care Minister David Ashford told Manx Radio there had always been pathways in place for returning workers but added: "The pathways however have constantly changed based on the situation and this is the new iteration of this."

Mitigations will also be in place including the use of PPE and social distancing and those who're able to work from home will be encouraged to do so.
