'Bowel cancer can hit you at any age'

Friends of Jamie Carr raising awareness of disease

Friends of the late Jamie Carr, who tragically died from bowel cancer in his early twenties, are trying to raise awareness of the disease.

Jamie was diagnosed with the cancer to the shock of his loved ones, despite being a regular gym goer and healthy eater - he passed away in December 2016 after battling the disease.

Around £5,000 was raised for Isle of Man Bowel Cancer at the 'Remeber Jay fun day' held at Ballafletcher last year and a similar event is planned for early July.

Brian O'Riordan and Dean Gough say bowel cancer can affect people at any age regardless of how healthy you are.

They're encouraging men particularly to seek help if they start feeling unwell.

Another fun day is being organised for the 7th of July, again at Ballafletcher, where Dean and Brian will hope to surpass the £5,000 total raised last year.

Meanwhile on April 21, Carrefour Gym, (the gym where Jamie trained) is organsing a charity day with discount price classes.

At the same time Bowel Cancer Isle of Man will be handing out flyers in Dogulas town center as part of the charity's flag day collection. The postcard size leaflets feature Jamie and a look at the symptoms of the cancer
