Buddies' final event of 2018

Founder reflects on big year for the charity

FIM Capital Beach Buddies will hold its final event of the year this weekend.

Volunteers will meet at Derbyhaven, starting at 10:30am on Sunday.

Those attending are asked to park with courtesy for the local residents in Derbyhaven, with the event finishing no later than midday.

Charity founder Bill Dale has also taken the opportunity to reflect on a successful 2018.

This year saw the number of volunteers reach 10,000, with the 11,000 mark expected to be achieved in early 2019.

There's also been recognition of the Buddies' achievements from all angles, including in Tynwald, and from UNESCO.

An anonymous donation has led to increased engagement with the Island's schools.

Mr Dale extended his thanks to every single person on the Island who has helped, even in a small way, and says the results have been noticeable.

He says "there are still some problems, and we are still finding lots of fast food containers, plastic bottles and tin cans, but we have "a cunning plan" to try to address this during 2019".

Beach Buddies will be having a break over Christmas, and will resume in early January.
