Quirk says maintenance needs to be a priority
An Onchan commissioner has called on the Department of Infrastructure to repair bus shelters saying some of the ones located in his area are a ‘disgrace’.
David Quirk says he believes maintenance needs to be a priority for the department as part of the future transport strategy.
He contacted Manx Radio’s Mannin Line to highlight issues with two shelters including one at Port Jack claiming he’d been told there is no money to repair them:
In response the Department of Infrastructure said it "has a rolling annual programme for bus shelter repairs (or replacement), as well as improvement works for accessibility.'
Repairs range from seat replacement, panel powder coating through to a full new unit
The statement continues: "The list of works is agreed yearly with the department balancing the priority of each site based on structure, accessibility and cost.
"It is also impacted by surrounding infrastructure, utilities or land ownership, and level of disruption to the public and businesses.
"The shelters in question are not on the scheduled works for this year but will be considered for next year."
