Bus strike just hours away

The countdown is on to the bus strike – which begins tomorrow.

The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure says failed talks with the drivers union Unite means three days of industrial action will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

A limited timetable will be on operation on some routes and the Island’s trams and steam trains are being pressed into service as replacements for certain services.

School buses are also affected alongside scheduled buses for the public.

The department is urging people to check bus timetables before they travel – and says the emergency timetables are online on the government’s website, gov.im

Routes which will be running over the three days are the 21, 24, 17, 5, 6.

Meanwhile, the Manx Electric Railway and Steam Trains will operate replacement services for the 3, 3A, 1, 2, 11 and 12.

The Welcome Centre at Douglas Sea Terminal will be open from 8am til 6pm on all three days to answer queries – you can call 662525 for information.
