External review calls for reform
There's a move to simplify and 'depoliticise' the Island's planning application process.
Policy and Reform Minister John Shimmin will ask Tynwald to receive a report by consultancy firm Envision for consideration this month.
The Council of Ministers commissioned a 'High Level Strategic Review of Planning in the Isle of Man'.
It puts forward two recommendations aimed at tightening up the system and making it more transparent.
The first suggests a number of key principles and messages for use as a basis for future reform.
It asks that the role of politicians in the process is defined - ensuring it's free from abuse.
The review recommends major applications be prioritised, that all jargon is removed from communications with the public - making it more effective, with greater inclusivity.
The second recommendation advocates there's a fresh system in place before a new administration emerges.
