Calls for wildlife road signs from MSPCA

Clocks going back has a wide-reaching impact

The ManxSPCA would like to see government introduce road signs across the Island, to warn drivers about areas of active wildlife.

Juana Warburton at the centre in Foxdale says they approached government after the UK looked at a similar initiative.

It comes ahead of the clocks going back this weekend, causing noctornal animals to get caught up in traffic moving at different times of the day.

Juana says it's an ongoing issue:

People will get an extra hour in bed this weekend as the clocks go back but how will the change in time affect farmers?

With the winter months closing in, the wellbeing of farm animals becomes a lot more time consuming.

The shorter days mean a lot more work must be done in the dark, making it difficult for workers to spot an ill or missing animal.

However, James Faragher, a cattle farmer from Ballasalla, says the time change has little impact:

Dark chocolate, exercise and sleep; all things that can help us through winter.

Claire Dale is co-author of 'Physical Intelligence', a book which looks at ways you can better your mood during this time of year.

However, the impact is felt more heavily by some who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Claire says a change in mood is normal in winter, however some may need to consider seeking medical help:
