Campaign group hits out at authority's sewage plans for Laxey and Baldrine

'No reason' new treatment facility would hinder Blue Flag status, says MUA

A group campaigning for clean waters in Laxey bay has hit out at sewage treatment plans outlined by Manx Utilities.

The authority says a new facility between the villages of Laxey and Baldrine has been identified as the best solution to an ongoing dispute over bathing water quality.

Currently, two pipelines run out into Laxey Bay. Roger Tomlinson of the Best 4 Laxey Bay Group says they'd prefer to see the sewage pumped away to an existing facility:

In response, the Chair of Manx Utilities, Rob Callister MHK, says there's 'no reason' why the proposed solution will not allow Laxey to gain ‘Blue Flag’ status in the future.

The planned works, he says, will provide ‘excellent’ bathing water quality, equal to that of any pump away solution.
