Cannabis growing rules 'not great for farming community'

Government focus on 'high-end market'

Some in the Island's farming community say they won't be able to benefit from new laws allowing cannabis to be grown here for the first time.

Tynwald recently approved the framework for an export-only industry to develop, but planting the male seeds outdoors hasn't been permitted.

It's over fears it would contaminate feminised plants used in the 'high-end medicinal cannabis market', which government says will create the most local jobs.

But some local farmers want to grow hemp using the male seed and say they're bewildered by the decision.
