Cannan: 'Manx Care must operate within budget this year'

Chief minister warns of need for 'financial discipline'

Manx Care must operate within its new financial budget or investment in health and social care will have to stop.

That’s the warning from the chief minister who says there is an ‘absolute need for financial discipline’ across government.

From April the higher rate of Income Tax is being raised from 20 percent to 22 percent to help pay for the NHS.

This, and additional funding from Treasury, means the Department of Health and Social Care’s budget for 2024-2025 will be increased by £41.2 million.

Alfred Cannan says this year’s financial plan is designed to protect the health and care of the nation:

He’s also asked politicians to ‘raise their heads from the weeds’ and reflect on the global situation including what he’s described as the Covid ‘hangover’.

Mr Cannan also claimed government is on course to deliver the Our Island Plan targets despite ‘strong headwinds’.
