MHKs vote to send Isle of Man Constitution Bill to clauses stage
Removing the vote from the Isle of Man’s bishop could mean the end of the position entirely.
That’s the view of the chief minister who voted against the idea in the House of Keys yesterday (5 December).
Alfred Cannan was one of nine MHKs who attempted – unsuccessfully - to defeat the second reading of the Isle of Man Constitution Bill.
To support his argument Mr Cannan quoted from a letter written by the Archbishop of York who'd previously shared his thoughts with a Tynwald committee looking at the matter.

The bill will now progress to the clauses stage.
The MHKs who voted against it were: Rob Callister, Alfred Cannan, Claire Christian, Tim Glover, Kate Lord-Brennan, Jason Moorhouse, Andrew Smith, Chris Thomas and John Wannenburgh.
