Changes to exemptions on prescription charges inevitable says charity boss

There was a degree of inevitability that free prescriptions and dental care for the over 60s could no longer be sustained.

So says, the chief executive of an Island charity after a change in the law.

Until Saturday, over 60s had been eligible for free prescriptions and dental care but the changes mean only those in full-time retirement if state pensionable age now qualify.

George Quayle of Age Isle of Man says he understands concerns, even though prescription charges remain heavily subsidised and low cost compared to England.
