Changes will not compromise care

The Social Care Minister is insisting care of children and young people in the Island will not be compromised – despite a renewal of child care contracts which will save government around £5.7 million over three years.

There’s been anger since provider St Christopher's Fellowship was awarded a number of contracts at the expense of long established Manx organisation, The Children's Centre.

And with more children going into foster care, there will be a reduction in the number of care homes from eight to four, leading to the predicted annual saving to the taxpayer of £1.9 million.

However, Howard Quayle says child care remains the priority NOT value for money.
