Former residents of Knottfield come forward
An MLC says authorities "allowed" systematic child abuse to take place on the Island in the 1970s.
Kerry Sharpe gave evidence to the Social Affairs Policy Review Committee this morning, as she's spent years researching the history of children in care on the Island, with a view to publishing a book on the topic.
It's thought many residents of the Knottfield Children's Care Home on Woodbourne Road, Douglas, were subjected to physical, mental and sexual abuse - two of whom also gave evidence to the committee today.
Mrs Sharpe agreed that the Island's legal and safeguarding systems had failed a generation of children in the care of the state-run facility:
