Christmas coming early to Douglas

The big-switch on for the town's festive lights is scheduled for 23 November

Before most of us have packed away the summer garden furniture Douglas City Council is already gearing up for Christmas 2023.

The big-switch on for the town's festive lights is scheduled for Thursday the 23rd of November, meanwhile the full Christmas programme of events is currently being finalised.

Council leader, Claire Wells says members of the public may see some lights and trees going up fairly soon. This is because the Council's electrical team is currently operating at a reduced level over the next couple of months.

It means decorative lighting on the outskirts of the city will have to be scaled back due to staffing resources.

Meanwhile entertainment and attractions in Douglas will include the ever-popular ice sculpture, an outdoor cinema (Make sure you've got your big coat), free children rides, the snow garden, a craft fair and, of course, Santa's grotto.

So whether you think of Christmas as yo ho ho, or oh no no, you can rest assured the capital will be bathed in the Christmas spirit.
