Church reaches out to Filipino congregation

 

The Island's Roman Catholic church is offering support to its large Filipino congregation.

 

Members concerned about relatives caught up in the typhoon disaster have been helped to make contact with the Catholic diocese in the capital Manila.

 

An appeal launched yesterday has seen envelopes for donations placed in St Mary's church in Hill Street, Douglas which is open every day.

 

Monies raised will be funnelled into the Catholic overseas development charity CAFOD, to buy aid for victims and rebuild devastated areas.

 

The appeal's being coordinated by Canon Philip Gillespie at St Mary's.

 

He says the church is rightly being used as a place for Filipinos to find solace:
