Claim that new TT carbon neutral claim 'runs contrary to climate act'

Curtis Associates director says Island schemes should qualify

Plans to make the 2022 TT completely carbon neutral for the first time run contrary to the Climate Change Act which was approved by Tynwald last year.

That’s the belief of the director of a Douglas based energy management company.

The Department for Enterprise says the carbon offsetting programme - for the estimated 5000 tonnes of carbon generated -would involve internationally based schemes to assess and calculate emissions.

The project is being carried out in partnership with the Island based Pozitive Group.

But John Curtis, of Curtis Associates, says that under the terms of the Act only Isle of Man based schemes can qualify:
