Coleen Cowin takes honours at World Bonnag Championships

The Island has a new world champion.

Coleen Cowin took the honours at last night's (FRI) World Bonnag Championships held in Dalby, taking the honour from two time Champion Vanessa Callin in a hotly contested battle.

Gordon Clague won the men's class with son Bryce keeping up the tradition with a win in the children's class.

Commercial Bonnag was won again by Green's Tea Rooms.

There were new innovations in the competition with a gluten free bonnag - thought likely to be made into a new class for the 2016 World Championships - and a 21st century, 50/50 weekend Bonnag for those too busy to decide whether to have a fruit bonnag or a plain one. It has a side of each.

Proceeds from the event go to the Dalby Church Restoration Fund as well as their two charities this year, Women's Aid IOM and the Manx Overseas charity Mannin Sponsors Africa, supporting their work in bringing wells to villages in Gambia.
