Health minister reveals feedback on new patient transfer service

24 complaints were made about the Island's new patient transfer service.

The figure was revealed in the House of Keys this morning by Health Minister Kate Beecroft after a question from North Douglas member, David Ashford.

Liverpool-based ComCab took over six-weeks ago after winning a tender process, but there was outcry from some local residents who wanted government to retain the services of previous sub-contractor, Bridgewater.

A video recently emerged showing a passenger in one of the ComCab cars claiming to have no working seat belt.

Thirteen complaints are related to black cabs being used; with some patients unhappy some of the seats in the vehicle faced backwards.

Concerns have also been raised about alleged excessive speed on bumpy roads, and ill and frail passengers sometimes expected to use fold-up seats.

More than 800 journeys have been carried out since the firm's contract began on 27th March.
