Commemorating airfield history

Memorials unveiled around the Island

The rich history of the Island's airfields has been commemorated.

Memorial stones and plaques were this weekend unveiled at five different locations by disused airfields.

The Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust memorials are at Jurby, Andreas, Close Lake on the Ramsey to Jurby road, St George's Football Club and by the Castle Mona shops on Douglas promenade.

Director of the airfield charity, Kenneth Bannerman, says 42 memorials have already been placed around Britain to honour military and social histories.
