Fifty people lost their lives in 1973 leisure centre blaze
Two commemorative services will be held tonight (Saturday 2 August) on Douglas Promenade marking the 52nd anniversary of the Summerland disaster.
On 2 August 1973, 50 people were killed and 80 seriously injured when the leisure complex caught fire with around 3,000 people inside.
The centre had only opened two years prior.
Tonight, Douglas Council is to host one ceremony in the Kaye Memorial Gardens at 6:45pm, whilst another service will take place on the Summerland site from 7pm.

Meanwhile, an exhibition exploring the years before, during and after the fire opens in the Villa Marina Arcade today and will be on display until Saturday, 9 August.
