Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice Committee meeting in September
Youth justice will be put under the spotlight next month at the Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice Committee.
Two justices of the peace – magistrates Gill Eaton and Lisa Horton - will give evidence to the standing committee of Tynwald on 5 September.
They’ll be joined by legal officer, and clerk to the justices, Ruksana Kosser.
The session will take place at 3.30pm at the Legislative Council Chamber in Douglas – members of the public are welcome to attend.
The committee is undertaking an inquiry on youth justice and is still taking written submissions from anyone who wants to comment on the matter.
Views are sought on the structure and effectiveness of the Isle of Man’s youth justice system, the extent of youth crime, and the availability of data, and the principles of youth justice including the age of criminal responsibility.
People are also encouraged to feedback on inter-agency working and the collapse of the previous Youth Justice Team and prospects for a new statutory Youth Justice Board.
The committee is being chaired by MLC Tanya August-Hanson alongside MHKs David Ashford and Stu Peters.
