Concerns over public sector pensions aired at PAG meeting

Claims 'half' of population has been forgotten

“The politicians have defrauded us.”

 Those were the words of one disgruntled audience member at a Positive Action Group meeting last night (Mon 28), as Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas gave a frank and detailed insight into the state of the legacy funding gap in Manx public sector pensions.

 

During a heated Q&A session, a teacher and a retired healthcare worker both voiced their disillusionment that ongoing changes to terms and conditions were leaving more and more people in what Mr Thomas coined ‘pensions poverty’.

 

Representatives of the private sector were equally concerned, though, that one-‘half’ of the working population has “been forgotten” under the current administration.
