Parents encouraged to look out for any related symptoms
A confirmed case of Scarlet Fever has been found at a primary school on the Island.
In an email, seen by Manx Radio, parents are encouraged to look out for any related symptoms and to contact their GP if there are any concerns.
According to the NHS, the bacterial infection usually affects children but is easily treated with antibiotics.
Symptoms include:
- A high temperature,
- A sore throat
- Swollen neck glands (a large lump on the side of your neck)
- A rash appears 12 to 48 hours later. The rash makes your skin feel rough, like sandpaper.
Treating scarlet fever:
A GP may prescribe antibiotics which will:
- Help you get better quicker
- Reduce the chance of a serious illnesses, such as pneumonia
- Make it less likely that you'll pass the infection on to someone else
