MHK calls for probe

A committee is to investigate the 'true cost' of staffing at Noble's Hospital - after figures showed some consultants were being paid three-quarters more than the UK average.

Fifty-six consultant staff are currently working at the hospital, with salaries for the highest paid coming close to a quarter of a million pounds.

The figures, published by the health department this week, also show waiting times for appointments are well above targets set by the NHS in England.

Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson, who requested the data, heads up Tynwald's Public Accounts Committee.
