Contingency plans 'worked well' says Post Office

More than 5,500 high priority packets and parcels delivered

Isle of Man Post Office bosses say contingency plans, put in place to mitigate the impact of the three-day strike last week, worked 'extremely well'.

It's thought around 210 of the 340-strong workforce were involved in industrial action staged by the Communication Workers Union, from Thursday to Saturday (14-16).

Chief Executive Simon Kneen says staff received and processed mail from three sea containers and three mail planes, undertaking a full range of collections on all strike days, processing 100% of that work and successfully dispatching two planes of mail back into the UK postal network.

More than 5,500 high priority packets and parcels were delivered, plus thousands of letters across the period and over 500 flower bouquets on Valentine's Day.

Mr Kneen says disruption to customers was kept to a minimum, and he's thanked them for their patience and understanding, whilst also adding the service will be completely up-to-date this morning (Tues 19).

Finally, it's thought the Post Office will be providing another counter proposal to the Union by the end of this week, in efforts to solve the ongoing dispute over staff terms and conditions.
