Councillors 'vandalising' Douglas by removing festoon lights

Hundreds sign petition to 'Save Douglas' Lights'

More than 900 people have signed a petition to save the lights of Douglas Promenade.  

Recently, the 1940s fairy lights in the Island's capital were taken down; a local campaigner wants to see them put back up.

Adam Keay created the 'Save Douglas' Lights' petition and has described the removal as 'vandalism' by the councillors, who voted unanimously to replace them with a new LED system next year.

Following the decision in February 2019, Council Leader David Christian said the £830,000 investment would save ratepayers around £157,000 a year in energy costs.
